May 2014

MURCHISON BOAT HIRE MAY 2014 ELETTER
Some great fish again this month. It does help when the weather is good!
Easy to get right onto the spot over the fish, the anchor will hold and the fish usually co operate.
The business is changing and growing, getting busier and thoughts are turning to another boat, but I am
trying to resist that but I might just have to bite the bullet.
7.8m Boat now in Charter Survey
Due to the change in the governing body regarding boat licencing from a State Agency to AMSA which is Federal.
I can now use my boats in any way I want as long as they are surveyed for that use and registered on their data base as such.
This now means that I can use my 7.8m boat as a Charter Fishing Vessel, Work Boat, Hire & Drive and for Recreational.
I have bought a West Coast Charter Fishing Licence so we will be able to take small groups out fishing.
The skipper has to have a full Coxswain’s Ticket, which my son has so he will be doing the skippering.
I will be giving him the heads up on my best spots and methods, (which he already knows)
and we should be operating about mid-July.
Extended Weekend
Paul Youngman has fished from my boats a lot and brought a couple of mates up for a fish.
Tony Wheeler and son, Graham Wheeler had not caught many fish and not very big ones either and were thrown into the deep end
during the 3 days out in the 7.8m boat.

It started with a few big snapper for Tony;
Graham got a big sand snapper
and trolled up a surprise wahoo
on the way back. The water was green so was only expecting a lucky tuna, but the sight of this 9kg wahoo cutting
through the water at the boat was a sight for sore eyes!

The cobia were prolific. They landed 5 one day as well as a good estuary cod for Paul among all the big and small shark bust offs.
During the hot bite, Tony bust off on a fish right at the rod tip leaving 50 or so metres of line out there. 15 minutes later a
floating line was spotted next to the boat. It was gaffed and a fish was felt on the end. Quickly cutting his rig off, Paul tied
the loose end to his line and  took up the weight. It turned out to be the cobia in this photo!

A big baldchin groper made the day for Graham,
Paul got his coral trout after if got off at the boat
& started to swim back down, but a quick gaff shot brought it back!
Two dhuies were released waiting for the big one, which was either lost or did not bite.
There were a lot of sharks around and all had their arms lengthened a few times,
fish bitten in half and line lost over the weekend.

Kalbarri Regulars
Hi Laurie.

Attached photos of John Slattery (in the boat) and his brother Robin with the cobia that Robin caught.
For the record we caught 30 plus mackerel and the cobia which is actually a lot better than recent years.
We are looking at a booking from 19 April to 1 May 2015 for “Bulawayo Buoy”.
Please pencil those dates.

Ningaloo Reef at its Best

Kevin Steel had the 7.8m boat for 14 days up Coral Bay/Exmouth way and landed some extraordinary fish.
A bit vague on the destination, but that is all I can tell you other than it was not at Ningaloo Station.
I don’t allow my boats to go to Ningaloo because there is no boat ramp and the road is too bad.

Most fish fell to soft plastics and they told me they had to move away from the golden trevally in the end
so that they could catch other fish!
These are quite big goldens! What a blast on soft plastics!

The bottom fish were good as well, big spangled emperor, big rankin cods
& a couple of chinaman cods made up the better bottom fish

GTs were caught using surface poppers at the back of the reef. Nice fish guys!

Mackerel and a coronation trout made up the variety of species they caught.

Bite of the Month
Graham Wheeler hooked up on this uncommon wahoo while trolling back from the days fishing.
Not expecting much in the green dirty water, this 9kg wahoo was very unexpected and much appreciated!
Each month I award Bite of the Month to someone who catches the best fish from one of my boats.
Kalbarri Offshore & Angling Club Local Comp.
31st May 2014

Club member Ben Guest got a nice 5.3kg dhuie during the last comp

and Lui Palamara had one bite
all day on the beach landing this 12.6kg mulloway.

Ryley Storor fished with Ben above landing this very chunky baldchin groper of 6.3kgs.
