February 2014

 Email: bookings@murchisonboathire.com.au           www.murchisonboathire.com.au

It has been a great month with lots of big tuna around; some caught this month were around 30kgs while other experienced anglers reported seeing 100kg size fish swimming with dolphins.
Everyone who went out when the conditions were right got into the yellow-fin tuna. However
mackerel have been a bit scarce except for the odd few small fish caught just out of the river mouth.

The Kalbarri Sports Fishing Classic is on this week end, weather looking great,
low swell and good bite times in the Almanac. All five of my boats are competing, so good luck to:
Glen DiCarlo, Paul Youngman, Ben Malton, in a 6.5m boat.
Lance, Tanya, Lee and Des Christie in the 5.3m boat.
Colin Strydom and crew in the other 6.5m boat.
Bruce Henwood and crew in the 6.1m boat,
and Sue, John Hoye and myself in the 7.8m boat.

Tuna Tango
Catherine Rawcliffe returned for another shot at some fish. She was last up here during the demersal ban so had to release most of the fish caught, but made up for it this time!

The group hired two boats and got into the yellow-fin both days and had a great time

  The photos say it all!
Small Black Marlin

It’s not often we get billfish out from Kalbarri, but semi local Peter Kubiak landed this little black just south of the river mouth
along the cliffs where this hook-up came from. Nice one Peter.

Yellow-fin tuna frenzy

Local comp day Saturday the 15th, and I went out with son, Ben in the 6.5m boat. First up Ben gets his personal best yellow-fin
of 15.2kgs, landed on 6kg line. Took him about 15 minutes to get in!
My hook-up later in the day on 4kg line took an hour to
subdue this 14.3kg fish!
Skydiving Dan’s day out
Dan runs the local skydiving business, where he jumps out of planes over Kalbarri with a thrill seeker attached to him and parachutes onto the beach just across the river. He was invited out by son Ben and mates, Shahn and Lisa.

and First up he got into this 9kg mackerel.
Then can a triple hook-up of yellow-fin that caused chaos when a big shark tried to eat two of the fish boat side.
The panicked fish were lost, but Dan got his.
www.skydivekalbarri.com open it in Google Chrome, the pics and video is awesome.

      Bite of the Month
Each month I award Bite of the Month to someone who catches the best fish from one of my boats.
Hard to split these two fish so well done Pete and Catherine
