October 2014

MURCHISON BOAT HIRE OCTOBER 2014 ELETTER
A quiet month due to the demersal ban on at the moment. There’s plenty of other fish to catch but
the weather plays a part in it all this time of year. The water is still warm and a
22kg yellow-fin was landed just out the river mouth last week! And hirers got one last week.
I feel the mackerel and tuna will be back earlier than usual this year, watch this space!
Getting the 7.8m boat into 2C survey is taking a long time!

Great day out from Kalbarri
Last angling club competition fell during the demersal ban, so we had to target something like mackerel, tuna, cobia, sambos
mulloway, tailor, tarwhine or something in the category 2 list. I had a hunch there might be something on a lump I know
and Sue and I went there early and anchored up.
First up we got a couple of big snapper on the 6kg outfits we were using but they had to go back!
Then a double hook-up and I got a 10kg mulloway to the boat but Sue was still going with hers. It turned out to be
a 16.37kg fish that won her the game section in the comp and she is also claiming it as a Game
Fishing record on 6kg line
with ANSA. This pending record if approved will beat the previous record of a 13.2kg fish caught by
Philip Worsley at South West Rocks, NSW on the 5th May 2008.
Sue later landed a second mulloway around 10kg while my second was only 6.5kg and then I had to release a third around 12kgs!
Not a bad morning’s work as we were back in by 9am.
Here is a 2 minute video of how she did it

How many rods should you have?
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Upcoming Events
Kalbarri Sports Fishing Classic
27th, 28th Feb & 1st March 2015
Preparations are well advanced now with the, logo, entry form, shirts, sponsorship etc in process.
If it is anything to go by from last year, the fishing will be spectacular again as it is in the best time of year
for game and bottom fish.
Already all my boats are booked for the Classic 2015 except the 5.3m.
So if you want to be part of it and need a boat be quick as it won’t last.

Bite of the Month
Sue wins Bite of the Month for this 16.37kg mulloway caught during the local club competition this month.
A pending ANSA National Game Fishing record for 6kg Line.
Each month I award Bite of the Month to someone who catches the best fish from one of my boats.
